Meter Reading

STEP 1   Locate your meter, generally found in a mechanical room or near your water heater. The meter is typically in a direct line with the outside water main. Some meters have a dial and display of numbers on the top.  Others look "blank" and require a bright flashlight shined on them in order for the numbers to register. Another style has a lid, flip up the lid using your hand to reveal the numbers.

STEP 2   Once you locate your water meter, read the number display from left to right. Be sure to include the stationary zero. This is your meter reading. Meters measure water in gallons. The number displayed on the meter is the total number of gallons that have ran through that meter in it's lifetime. Compare that reading to what your bill states as your current or present reading to calculate how many gallons you've used since the latest billing.

STEP 3   If you check your meter on the same date each month, it will be easily compared with the amount on your prior bill. However, if your reading is considerably higher than what is on your bill, check for a leak or try to determine the source of large water use. If your reading is significantly lower and you have been using water as normal, please contact us and let us assist you in determining the problem.
